ON THE ROAD IN CAR WITH PRIVATE DRIVER
Overall, the traffic in Sri Lanka is a bit more chaotic than elsewhere. On the streets, especially in the cities and villages, there is always something going on and everywhere there is something to discover. At the edge there are food stands and cows and there are many scooters, buses and tuk tuks. In Sri Lanka you drive on the left hand side and most signs are in Sinhalese, one of the two national languages of Sri Lanka. It is recommended to hire a driver in Sri Lanka who will show you around the country safely. Your driver knows the rules and the traffic.
BY TRAIN BY SRI LANKA
There are several train routes on the island. Most are single-track, only in Colombo and the surrounding area there are also two-track routes. The trains run. The train does not stop in all villages or cities. Therefore it does not make sense to plan a complete trip by train through Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, a train ride is a special experience that you should not miss. We suggest a trip from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. On this route you drive through the tea plantations and enjoy the view over the green fields and the beautiful mountains.
ON THE ROAD BY BUS BY SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka has a state bus network. There are also a few private bus companies. The bus is mainly used by the locals in Sri Lanka. In addition, they are very often very full. It is adventurous and chaotic to travel by bus. For comfortable travelers with a lot of luggage not recommended.
WITH TUK TUK THROUGH THE TIGHT GASES
The Tuk Tuk, also called Three Wheeler, is a three-wheeled vehicle with a roof. The Tuk Tuk is best for shorter trips in the area or if you want to drive from your hotel to a restaurant in the evening. We recommend that you negotiate the price before you drive, so that there are no unpleasant situations when you get out.
