The east coast of the country is certainly regarded as the Mecca of surfing in Sri Lanka. In particular, Arugam Bay is one of the top surf destinations worldwide. At certain spots, waves of more than 2 meters in height prevail at the right time. The south coast offers two very good surf areas with places like Hikkaduwa or Midigama. While Hikkaduwa is a backpacker melting pot that offers surfing as well as another wide range of water sports activities, the selection in Midigama is smaller. Also somewhat remote is Medawatta on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Here is the so-called "Secret Point" a highly sought after surfers hot spot. Other places of interest for surfing in Sri Lanka are Weligama, Mirissa and Unawatuna on the south coast
